WHAT iS STiMMiNG ?
the word ‘stim’ comes from ‘self-stimulatory,’ which means an action that is done to stimulate oneself.this can look and sound like many, many different things, but some commonly recognized stims are hand flapping, finger flicking, and repeating sounds.stimming is most often associated with people with autism and other forms of neurodivergency, although it is important to note that neurotypical people also stim.the key difference between neurodivergent and neurotypical stimming is that neurodivergent stimming tends to go beyond what is considered socially acceptable.neurotypical stimming is usually regarded as ordinary behavior because it is, for the most part, unobtrusive. this often looks like humming, tapping, or cracking knuckles. neurodivergent stimming can also be unobtrusive, but tends to be registered as “weird” or “annoying.”
YOONGi STiMS ?
the simple answer: he does!so much so that there is enough content to have an entire account dedicated to it. many of yoongi’s actions are viewed as him acting silly or odd, but are actually stims!
YOONGi iS NEURODiVERGENT ?
yoongi has directly stated that he has adhd, ocd, and has struggled with depression and social anxiety. in his song the last, yoongi describes visiting a psychiatric ward with his parents because of his mental health. he later talked about these lyrics in an interview with the rolling stone.yoongi is not neurotypical. even if he were, posting about his stims destigmatizes them and allows neurodivergent army to find comfort in him— which is something he said he finds “very encouraging.”it is also critical to remember that we are not entitled to literally any of yoongi’s personal life. everything he has shared with us so far has been a massive sign of trust.
